Frequently asked questions
What authorizations must be have the company to receive this type of waste?
The facilities of the company must have the following environmental permits:
- RCA (Environmental Qualification Resolution). To this must approve an Environmental Impact Statement (DIA) or Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) in the System of Environmental Impact Assessment (SEIA). CONAMA.
- Sanitary Authorization granted by the appropriate SEREMI de Salud R.M.
Why does receiving these residues have a cost?
The recycling of these residues is not financed by the commercialization of the recoverable materials, in view of the high cost that has the correct disposition of the dangerous residues contained in them and the managing environmentally correct of the same ones.
What is meant by waste electrical and electronic?
According to the definition of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) considers electronic waste "any device that uses a power supply that has reached the end of its useful life.
What type of electronic equipment are received?
All equipment and appliances and/or electronic such as computers, printers, phones, televisions, appliances and telecommunications equipment.
What is Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR)?
The REP means that a producer (manufacturer or importer) of electronic equipments must take charge of the equipment once finished his useful life and to give the guarantees of his correct disposition.
"It's an environmental policy that promotes the overall improvement of the life cycle of products, through the extension of producer responsibility in various parts of the cycle of life, especially the back, recover and dispose of the product." (Thomas Lindhqvist)
Is e-waste a hazardous waste?
Yes, the D.S. No. 148/2003.- MINSAL " Reglamento Sanitario Sobre Manejo de Residuos Peligrosos" it establishes in his Article 90, List A, A1180, that "electrical and electronic assemblies of waste or scraps containing components such as these batteries included in this list A, mercury switches, glass from cathode ray tubes and other activated glass and PCB capacitors, or contaminated with Schedule II of Article 18 (eg, cadmium, mercury, lead) in concentrations made that the waste presents a hazard characteristics (see the corresponding entry B1110 in the List B of the present Article).
What are the benefits of recycling e-waste?
The electronic products as other products are made from renewable resources and nonrenewable. The methods used in the extraction of these resources need great quantity of energy and water, as in his manufacture and transport to come to the consumer.
The recycling of these devices allows to recover elements that return to the productive cycle. Moreover e-waste is of concern due to its high content of toxic materials, although these substances are low risk during the use of equipment, can be extremely dangerous in the final phase if not handled properly.
The recycling of electronics mitigates air pollution, water and soil, and also prevent health risks of individuals.
